K OF C FUND DRIVE FOR DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED MAY 6-8, 2010

Township of Washington, NJ, April 2 –

On Thursday, May 6, members of Mother Seton Council #5427 of the Knights of Columbus in the Township of Washington will don their bright yellow and red trimmed aprons to signify that the annual fundraiser for the developmentally disabled has begun.  Brother Knights will be “shaking the can” at key locations in the Township soliciting donations.  For this, and all such events, 100% of every dollar received by the K of C volunteers goes directly to aid our neighbors.
Last year this drive raised over $17,000, thanks to a grant of $10,000 from the OritaniBank Charitable Foundation.  We hope to do as well again this year.  All knights volunteer their time for these activities and bear any expenses themselves.  This fundraising event will continue through Saturday, May 8th.  Donations by mail, to the K of C Charity Fund, 79 Pascack Road, Township of Washington, NJ 07676 are always welcome, all year long.
The Knights of Columbus was founded in 1882 at St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, Connecticut, by Fr. Michael J. McGivney.  It is the world’s largest Catholic, family, fraternal, service organization with over 1.78 million members in some 13,700 local councils in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Guam, Guatemala, Panama, the Virgin Islands, the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, Saipan and Poland.  It is dedicated to Church, community, family, and youth programs.  Last year individual Knights spent 69 million hours in volunteer services and the Order donated $150 million in charitable contributions.  Members of the K of C also spent 6 million hours visiting the sick and bereaved and delivered 10 million hours in fraternal services to them.  Additionally 413,402 Knights were blood donors.  The New Jersey Knights donated $4,568,772 to charities last year.
Applications for membership in the Knights of Columbus are welcome from qualified individuals.  For details call 201-664-0422 and ask for more information.
